Databases WM-MA-BDA
The purpose of the course is to provide knowledge and skills in databases and the basics of information modeling, storage and retrieval. In this class, students will be introduced to the basic methods of designing relational databases, the mechanisms used in such databases, and the basics of the SQL language, including the differences in the dialects of this query language. They will acquire skills: creating tables and relationships between them, loading data into the database, creating queries to retrieve information, and internal database programming - creating stored procedures and functions. They also become familiar with alternatives: distributed databases and NoSQL databases.

LECTURE
Student:
W1 - knows the principles of query writing and syntax in SQL language (MA1_W08),
W2 - knows how to construct advanced queries mapping algorithms in SQL language (MA1_W03),
W3 - knows the structure of the database and how to use it (MA1_W03),
W4 - knows the theoretical basis of database construction and design (MA1_W03),
W5 - knows the concepts of database systems (MA1_W08),
W6 - knows various database architectures (MA1_W08).
LABORATORIES
Student is able to:
U1 - model and design database data management algorithms (MA1_U25),
U2 - program in high-level SQL language (MA1_U28),
U3 - use the semantics of stored procedures and functions when inferring the correctness of database programs (MA1_U25),
U4 - build simple database systems using selected relational database management systems (MA1_U28).
Assessment criteria
For all learning outcomes, the following assessment criteria are adopted for all forms of verification:
grade 5: fully achieved (no obvious shortcomings),
grade 4.5: achieved almost fully and criteria for awarding a higher grade are not met,grade 4: largely achieved and the criteria for a higher grade are not met,
grade 3.5: largely achieved -with a clear majority of positives -and the criteria for granting a higher grade are not met,
grade 3: achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification and criteria for a higher grade are not met,
grade 2: not achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification.
