1. Apparent motion of the sky, Earth’s rotation and orbital motion, the seasons.
2. Calendar. Angular co-ordinates in geography and in astronomy; declination and right ascension,
3. Sun-Earth-Moon system; orbits, distances, eclipses, tidal forces.
4. Past and present concepts on the Solar System structure. Stellar aberration, stellar parallax and the Doppler effect as final proofs of the heliocentric hypothesis.
5. Some aplications of Kepler's laws. Physics of space travel.
6. Earth as a planet.
7. Planets and their satellites.
8. Astronomical instruments.
9. Origin of the Solar System. Interplanetary medium, comets, extrasolar planets.
10. Sun as a star.
11. The Big Bang as an onset of the nucleosynthesis, the cosmic microwave background radiation.
12. The H-R diagram, stellar classification, stellar evolution.
13. Distances to stars, stellar masses and proper motions.
14. Interstellar gas and dust.
15. Extragalactic astronomy.
Assessment methods:
Midterm test (written, 40% of the final score)
Final exam (oral, 60% of the final score)
