The lecture presents issues of digital techniques from both the theoretical and design perspective, as well as discusses selected real digital systems in use. Issues of design, hardware implementation and software equivalents are presented.
Exercises illustrate the lecture material through discussion, analysis and design of selected systems that interact with the lecture discussion.

Lecture:
Student
W1-knows and understands the techniques of digital and computer systems (I1_W10),
W2-knows and understands the physical basis of computer operation (I1_W14).
Laboratory:
Student
U1-can apply computer science knowledge to solve tasks of medium difficulty in the field of digital techniques (I1_U02),
U2-can model and represent digital systems of various types (I1_U04).
Assessment criteria
For all effects, the following assessment criteria are adopted for all forms of verification:
grade 5: fully achieved (no obvious shortcomings)
grade 4.5: achieved almost fully and criteria for awarding a higher grade are not met
grade 4: largely achieved and the criteria for a higher grade are not met
score 3.5: largely achieved - with a clear majority of positives - and the criteria for granting a higher grade are not met
grade 3: achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification and criteria for a higher grade are not met
grade 2: not achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification
