The purpose of the course is to provide students with knowledge of the basics of computer networks: network architecture and protocol stacks, network elements, transmission media, network technologies and topologies. The subject also introduces protocols at the network layer (IP), data link and local area networks (Ethernet), and at the transport layer (TCP, UDP).

Learning outcomes
Lecture
W1 The student has a basic knowledge of computer networks and the Internet.
W2 The student has knowledge of computer network architectures and protocol stacks, network elements, transmission media, network technologies and topologies.
W3 The student has a structured and theoretically supported knowledge of protocols in the network layer (IP), data link and local area networks (Ethernet), and in the transport layer (TCP, UDP).
Laboratory
U1 The student is able to understand the operation of modern computer networks.
U2 The student is able to use the learned protocols and algorithms to implement network technology projects.
U3 The student is able to configure data link and local area network (Ethernet) protocols, as well as IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, and program applications using the socket interface.
K1 The student is ready to understand the basic principles of modern computer networks and is ready to adapt to the latest technologies in this field.
K2 The student is ready to cooperate with specialists in the field of computer networks.
Assessment criteria
For all learning outcomes, the following assessment criteria are adopted for all forms of verification:
grade 5: fully achieved (no obvious shortcomings),
grade 4.5: achieved almost fully and criteria for awarding a higher grade are not met,
grade 4: largely achieved and the criteria for a higher grade are not met,
grade 3.5: largely achieved - with a clear majority of positives - and the criteria for granting a higher grade are not met,
grade 3: achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification and criteria for a higher grade are not met,
grade 2: not achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification.
