The course is intended to familiarize participants with the broad issues of cyber security. The purpose of the course is to present issues related to threats, vulnerabilities and methods of protecting information in ICT networks. Basic issues, services and mechanisms related to information protection will be presented. Vulnerabilities of popular communication protocols and services will be discussed. The taxonomy of network attacks will also be presented, as well as adequate security measures from personal computer protection to security management in corporate network environments. The subject participant will gain the ability to recognize security threats and vulnerabilities in the network environment and will be able to design and implement an adequate security policy based on existing solutions.

Learning outcomes
Lecture
W1 Student has a basic knowledge of the terminology and technical aspects of cybersecurity.
W2 Student knows basic mechanisms of protection against threats.
U1 Student can identify typical threats in computer networks and systems.
Labs
W1 Student knows rules of good practice in the field of cybersecurity.
U1 Student can configure and execute tools for monitoring and testing network traffic and identify typical threats in computer networks and systems.
U2 Student can select the appropriate security levels to ensure protection against threats.
Assessment criteria
For all learning outcomes, the following assessment criteria are adopted for all forms of verification:
grade 5: fully achieved (no obvious shortcomings),
grade 4.5: achieved almost fully and criteria for awarding a higher grade are not met,
grade 4: largely achieved and the criteria for a higher grade are not met,
grade 3.5: largely achieved - with a clear majority of positives - and the criteria for granting a higher grade are not met,
grade 3: achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification and criteria for a higher grade are not met, grade 2: not achieved for most of the cases covered by the verification.
