Physical chemistry III WM-CH-CHF
The medium-level compulsory lecture, "Physical Chemistry III" covers both basic and applied aspects of electrochemistry. Among the basic aspects, the issues of ionics and electrodics are discussed. The first ones include, among others, theories of electrolyte solutions and ion transport in electrolyte solutions, and electrode potentials of galvanic cells. The latter issues include basic concepts of electrochemical cell equivalent circuits, electrode process steps, polarizable and non-polarizable electrodes, limiting current, and its relationship to diffusion layer thickness. In addition, these issues include phenomena at the electrode-electrolyte solution interface as well as the kinetics and mechanism of electrode processes. Electrolysis and electrorefining of metals, organic and inorganic electrosynthesis, corrosion of metals, and methods of its prevention as well as electrochemical sources of energy including fuel cells, are discussed among the electrochemical application aspects.
