ML: Towards maturity and higher developmental stages WF-PS-N-KDIWSR
LECTURE I. INTRODUCTION: CALCULATING ADULTS DEVELOPMENT (3 hours)• The nature of development (developmental changes) in adulthood. Quantitative and qualitative changes• Potential or real development? Development factors and mechanisms.• What is development in adulthood heading for: spheres, directions, development trends.• Possible theoretical and research perspectives. Psychosocial vs personalistic approach.
LECTURE II. POSTFORMAL THINKING - CONTEMPORARY SEARCH DIRECTIONS (3 hours)
Current knowledge of human development psychology in the area of so-called postformal thinking, i.e. ways of reasoning in adulthood going beyond formalnological operations. The following are taken into account:• current approaches in cognitive development research in adulthood,• specificity of the cognitive and developmental approach,• theories of so-called "Fifth stage",• properties and development of postformal thinking in the light of modern research.
LECTURE III. INTEGRATION OF POZNAŃ AND EMOTION AS A CONDITION OF PERSONAL MATURITY. MYTHOS-LOGOS (3 hours)• The idea of bimodality of human cognition. Lateral approach. Post-formal integration of cognition and emotions in the view of G. Labouvie-Vief.• Dichotomy of logos-mythos. Mythical Thinking. The domain of logos and the domain of mythos. Mythos in childhood and mythos in adulthood.• Areas of mythos in archaic and contemporary cultures. Mythos as a living myth (M. Eliade, B. Malinowski et al.). The ludic sphere as an area of mythos.• Archaic and contemporary mythos - distinctive features.
LECTURE IV. THE CONCEPT OF AUTONOMOUS ME. MATURE AUTONOMY. WISDOM (3 hours)• The concept of post-formal stages of cognitive and personal development by G. Labouvie-Vief. Autonomous Self.• The concept of human autonomy. Personal autonomy and its conditions.• Mature autonomy• The issues of wisdom in life-span psychology. Contemporary views and views (P. Baltes, A. Niemczyński, Z. Pietrasiński).
LECTURE V. HIGHER SOCIETIES OF SOCIO-MORAL DEVELOPMENT. MATURE MORALITY (3 hours)• Development of the social perspective as a bridge between cognitive and moral development. Higher stages in the R.L. model Selman - higher stages. Criticism of the concept. Conditions and mechanisms for the development of moral reasoning.• Moral reasoning and moral behavior.• Higher stages of moral development (postconventional level) in the concept of L. Kohlberg. Characteristics and controversies around stage 7.• The concept of mature morality.
LECTURE VI. MATURITY AND PERSONAL INTEGRATION (3 hours) • Mature personality in various approaches (G. Allport, Z. Chlewiński, CW Graves).• Criteria for personal maturity. Intellectual aspect. Ethical Aspect.• Emotional maturity and emotional intelligence.• Criteria for emotional maturity according to W. Menninger.• Symptoms of immaturity vs emotional maturity (J. Murray).• Mature conscience. Mature guilt.• Mature vs. immature personality traits according to E.H. Erikson and C.W. Graves.
LECTURE VII AND VIII. PERSONALIST PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: WITHOUT STADIA AND WITHOUT BORDERS (6 hours)• Psychosocial and personalistic way of understanding development mechanisms.• The concept of a person and personal development (V.E. Frankl G. Allport, A. Gałdowa, M. Opoczyńska, M. Straś-Romanowska).• Man as a person. Structure and becoming of a person.• Social and subjective dimensions in the light of personalistic meta-theory. Endless development ("without borders"). Subjective relation Ja-Ty (M. Buber). Psychology and philosophy of the meeting (A. Kępiński).
LECTURE IX. EXCEEDING YOURSELF AS DEVELOPMENT (3 hours)• Man and values. Shaping the individual world of values (A. Gałdowa, M. Opoczyńska). Surviving values (A. Kępiński)• Crossing yourself as a development mechanism. Development in the subjective and metaphysical sphere. Developmental dynamics.• The concept of auto (self) transcending. Self-realization and self-transcendence. Transcendentals. Crossing oneself to transcendental.• Will and subjectivity. Volitional human activity.
LECTURE X. EXCEEDING YOURSELF AS SELF-TRANSCENDENCE. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT (3 hours)
• Self-transgression as a kind of transgression.
• The internal principle of authentic self-transgression. Self-transcendence as self-transcending consciousness.
• Crossing yourself on four levels of consciousness: empirical, intellectual, rational and responsible. Specificity of the highest level.
• Spiritual development as an object of psychology interest. Psychological spirituality - in what sense?

Assessment criteria
Students listen to lectures on MS Teams platform, they take part in discussions, prepare a presentation along with problems for discussion.
The final grade consists of:
- attendance (50%)
- activity during classes, including presentation (25%)
- result of final and oral exam (25%).
