1. Definitions of rhetoric.
2. Main goals of rhetoric.
3. An outline of history of rhetoric.
4. The subject of the speech, the elements of persuasion (ethos, pathos, logos), the relationship between convincing and justifying theses.
5. The plan of the speech: introduction, presentation of a problem, partition, argumentation, conclusion.
6. Delivering a speech.
7. The characteristics of a good speaker.
8. Applications of rhetoric in a dispute: basic rules of a discussion, exercises in identifying and discerning main types of fallacies committed in public speeches and argumentative discussions.

Learning outcomes
Students have basic knowlege about applications of classical rhetoric
in public speaking. They can analyze and evaluate public speeches by characterizing three types of persuasion: logos, ethos, and pathos. They apply the classical plan of public speech.
They know how to prepare a public speech.
They appreciate the need of employing fundamentals of rhetoric in
analysing and evaluating various communication phenomena.
