Basic concepts of the science of communication: sender, message, receiver, means of communication
Levels and types of communication
The typology of means of communication.
The basic stages in the history of communication.
Models of communication: Laswell, Schramm, Lewin, Lazarsfeld and Katz, Riley’s, Moles, Tudor.
Communicative competence
Sign and his definitions (de Saussure and Peirce)
Connotation, denotation, and myth.
The notion of code.
Mass society - the genesis and characteristics.
The concept and features of popular culture.
Non-verbal and verbal communication.
Definition of non-verbal communication.
Functions of nonverbal communication and systems.
The definition of language, a language code.
Functions of language.
Symbolic interactionism.
E. Goffman's theatrical metaphor - basic concepts (space structure, roles and the side stage, the types of secrets, facade, masquerading)
Orality and literacy by W. Ong - differentiating features.
The concept of the media by M. McLuhan

At the level of knowledge a student should be able to
describe the classical theories and models of communication in a variety of scientific fields,
identify and compare the theoretical approaches to the study of communication,
list and describe the essential features of the system and the process of social communication
At the level of skills the student should be able to
evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the various theoretical concepts of communication,
evaluate critically simplified models of communication.
At the level of competence of the student is able to
be aware of the importance and complexity of communication processes,
make an sophisticated reflection on the course of communication in everyday life,
use creatively of knowledge about communication in practice.
