- Egypt: history, religion and literature, Egypt in the Bible.
- Mesopotamia: history of the main empires and cultures: Sumer, Assyria and Babylon.
- Persia: history, religion and literature.
- Canaan: history, culture and literature of the peoples in this region of the Ancient Near East.
- Canaan: religion (Ugarit, Mari, Ebla).

By the end of the course students should:
1. know basic problems of countries and peoples of the Ancient Near East: their history, literature and religion.
2. be able to show the most importance features and attainments of the neighbours of Israel.
3. assess the value of literary and archaeological sources for recognition of the neighbours of Israel.
