Principles of text editing WH-FPZ-C-ZRT.1
Course contents:
The content of the course is: a critical analysis of the text to be printed in terms of the level of editing, the necessary interventions required at a minimum level till the "perfect" editing, and - in today's editing - accepted principles, standards of editorial prose on several levels / layers of the text:
- Layer of the correct Polish up to beautiful Polish - with the understanding the issues of style, the specificity of the author's text with its language individualism and the manner of linguistic style, and the threshold of competence / editorial interference
- Layer of the substance of the text and the level of the editor's responsibility depending on the style of the prose adopted by the publisher; possibility of interference in the structure of the text, the level of cooperation with the author
- editorial layer: issues of editorial standards and principles including customary and changing ones; learning further stages of work on a book
- editing features of the text to prepare for publication:
- divisions
- appendices
- analysis
- pagina
- elements of technical editing - the editor responsible for this sphere.
Methods of assessment: editorial work on the texts exclusively, plus attendance, more than three absences: the necessity of additional work, beyond the number written in class, all work is carried out only in the classroom.
Bibliography
The recommended reading list for students of this course - beyond the existing dictionaries, serving as an aid (but only to help) - is a critical and careful reading of multiple texts operating in the cultural area (except the books: the press, billboards, advertisements, leaflets), with emphasis on the function of the text and its social context: depending on: e.g. ways of recording.
