Analysis of literary work WH-FP-C-ADL
Preliminary requirements: school knowledge of the structure of literary work, knowledge of literary genres and historical diversity of literature.
Factual content: The object of the classes consists in systematic analysis of chosen works diversified as for the literary genre (lyric poetry, narrative prose, small narrative genres, model dramatic forms, non-fiction). The analyses present the complicated structure of the work, the function of used artistic means, different literary strategies applied by authors and various contexts, whose naming is indispensable in order to understand the work. The literary work is treated as a multi-faceted task for the reader. The classes constitute an introduction to the adventure of reading, they display different literary strategies in the construction of the meanings of the works. They also show how to read so as not to be deprived of the pleasure of reading, and at the same time to make it a conscious, well-ordered process of searching sense. They also lead to identify what – in getting to the meanings – is subjective, and how one can objectivize observations and judgements.
Methods of evaluation: The overall evaluation includes active participation in classes, short class introduction presentations on some analytical detailed problems and an end-of-term paper dealing with the interpretation of a contemporary poetical drama (indicated by the lecturer).

Objectives of the subject: exercises based on the analysis of literary work aimed at developing the skill of attentive, insightful and systematic reading in the participants; discerning in the work the predominant feature of its composition and style; and making more functional the characteristic literary means which are determining its artistic character and accomplishing the literary idea. Whenever possible, they teach how to use the terminology concerning work structure (learnt simultaneously during classes on poetics).
