History of Poland during the time of annexations WS-NH-HI-HPCZ
or over 120 years the Republic of Poland was dismembered, without name and forced into three foreign state structures. Occupying powers were trying to capture polish citizens’ land, language, faith, memory… Several generations had to fight not only for survival, for political existence but also strive for unification of the country, that had been torn. They were fighting with weapon, exile, underground, martyrdom, but also with work, perseverance, strength of spirit, intellect and moral imperative.
It was also a time of great social transformations and mental changes, a time of emerging of a new ideas as well as ideologies of a strong effect on Polish citizens and their countrymen in former Poland as well as their occupying neighbours. It was a time of modern thinking and activities.
History of annexed Republic of Poland has been covered with many simplifications and schemes that are to this day hard to overcome. In XIX century the idea of the Republic of Poland had been limited to Congress Poland and furthermore lands taken were considered lost and “nonpolish”
