Don Bosco's preventive system of education WNP-PE-SP-ER
The content of the above enlisted eight parts will be based mainly on the rich literature in Italian and the listed works published in Polish. The lecturer will, as far as possible, share with the students his own translation of some of the source texts. All 15 weekly lecture blocks will be illustrated by pdf presentations from PowerPoint. Several lectures will be enriched by interviews with scholars-authorities in the history of the life and work of St John Bosco and Salesian pedagogy.
Course objectives:
- Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to describe the pedagogical experience of Don Bosco in its various dimensions: historical, spiritual, pedagogical, social, and to indicate the application of this experience in today's reality of the life of children and young people.
- He will be able to situate the system among others, highlighting its advantages and criticisms.
- In a possible project he/she will apply the elements of the prevention system corresponding to the environment of contemporary upbringing, the challenges it poses and the expectations of both the young person and his/her family (tutors).

Knowledge:
The student will be able to place the Preventive System in the panorama of experience and pedagogical sciences, to describe its main assumptions, characteristics and elements, especially in the educational-school practice of St. John Bosco, as well as of other pedagogues who prefer this system, especially operating, in a broad way, today in school-educational institutions inspired by the Saint from Turin.
The student will be able to present in an orderly way the historical and pedagogical knowledge he/she possesses, the specificity of the system and its psychopedagogical advantages in the development of the child and the young person, both in institutional education and in community-environmental forms.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria: Grade of assimilation of the content of the lecture, knowledge of the proposed readings-sources, presentation of selected topics, possible educational project and substantive discussion about main topics.
The final grade consists of:
1. Grade of participation/attendance both online and in class
2. Level of preparation for each class (study of the texts, preparation of oral statements, ability to argue the presented theses)
3. Manifested activity during classes (in various forms)
4. Presentation of a written project (if applicable)
5. Completion of a written test (or an oral examination depending on the general situation)
3.0 - Can present the main principles of the Preventive System and knows how to develop a project of education in accordance with the educational idea of Don Bosco.
3.5 - Correctly formulates the importance of the Preventive System for the quality of the educational process in educational institutions.
4.0 - Is able to describe the pedagogical experience of Don Bosco in its different dimensions: historical, spiritual, pedagogical, social.
4.5 - Is able to present a structured knowledge of educational environments and is able to apply the basic principles of the preventive system in educational action.
5.0 - Can indicate the place of the Preventive System of Don Bosco in the system of pedagogical sciences and the use in contemporary school and care-educational institutions.
