Icons of Collective Imagination (Literature and Film) WH-KU-SP-I-2-Ikony
The subject introduces students to issues related to the myth creation meaning of art (especially literature and film), creation by it and
stabilisation of the collective imagination. It gives an insight into the intertextual "career" of characteristic (visual, literary and film)
images, characters, themes and topics, and also acquaints them with critical reinterpretations. The seminar highlights the problem
with pop culture references to works of high art, and provides a basis for discussion on the boundaries between "real art" and kitsch,
the artistic pedigree of some stereotypes and the compensatory role (among others) role of art in human life.
