Bioetics WF-FI-MELLERBIO
Because of widely presented in media cases and engaging many people political discourse on new law regulations bioethical questions have become popular. Either some simple methods of making ethical decisions at medical units or regulations which are acceptable by heterogeneous society are desired.
During the classes bioethics is described as interdisciplinary science which connects philosophy, biology, medicine, law and social sciences. Philosophical fundaments of general principles and models of making particular decisions are presented. Also institutional aspects of bioethics (eg. commissions, institutes and conventions) is discussed.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: student defines basic bioethical notions, knows the origin of bioethics and its main trends (and their representatives). Student recognizes and distinguishes methods of bioethics.
Skills: student interprets and compares theoretical basis of main bioethical currents, is able to explain how theoretical ethical and axiological assumptions determine practical thesis. Student can explain necessity of bioethics as a theory and practical knowledge.
Competences: student is able to define and justify his/her own bioethical choices and to participate current bioethical discourse.
