Term 2025/26_Z:
Exegetical courses are conducted using synchronic methods of narratology and rhetoric as the main interpretative tools, with elements of the diachronic historical-critical method. Students become familiar with the practical application of specific textual research methods, working with texts in the Hebrew language, and the most critical directions in interpreting these texts. They learn the historical and social context of the narrated events, the structure of the broader Elijah and Elisha narratives, and the narrative composition and theology of the particular episodes that comprise the Elijah narrative. The cycle of stories about the prophets Elijah and Elisha interrupts the earlier narrative about the kings of the divided kingdom. It is woven into narratives about the events of the kingdoms of that time. This narrative structure is not accidental and serves a specific function in highlighting the theological thought of the Deuteronomist, revealing the Deuteronomist's perspective on the institution of the prophet and king, as well as the theology of worship. The lecture aims to provide a detailed analysis of individual fragments of the Elijah narrative, ultimately revealing the theological intention underlying the entire cycle, which is woven into the narrative about the kings of the divided kingdom. |
