The context of history and development of philosophical thought of the concept of (post)modernity. Social and religious consequences
1. INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT
- Man in (post)modernism. France May '68 and the situation of society in Western countries and Eastern Europe today.
- Historical and evolutionary reasons for the ontological departure of viewing the world (and man within it) from the perspective of God.
- An attempt to define postmodernism and to systematise the phenomenon.
2. DIAGNOSIS OF POSTMODERNISM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE HERITAGE OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT : A NEW CONCEPTION OF FREEDOM AND TRUTH
- The model of a secular state and the debate on the priority of the state in all matters
3. THE DANGEROUS FREEDOM OF MODERN MAN
- "Liberalization of man" and dangerous concepts of freedom without limits.
- Consequences for the reality of religion
- Resonance on the lifestyle and thinking of Christians]
4. FREEDOM OPPOSES RELIGION, AND ALLOWS SECULARIZED FAITH
- Three modern practices:

5. BEING A BELIEVER IN MODERNITY. THE HORIZONS OF VATICAN COUNCIL II

III. The key of balance in post-modern society: unity of faith in the perspective of separation and pluralism.

- In politics - the need for the separation of divine law from human law and the complementarity of each other

IV. the key to knowing how to believe in the modern world: knowing how to read the signs of the times
- The origin of a theology of the signs of the times
- First consequence of the perspective of the signs of the times(s) in theology - greater reference to man and society.
- Second consequence of the perspective of the signs of the times(s) in theology - pneumatological ecclesiology instead of Christomonism.
- Third consequence of the perspective on the signs of the times in theology - mission in the context of the correct recognition of the inner situation of man and pastoral conversion.
- The fourth consequence of the perspective on the signs of the times(s) in theology - a positive approach to the analysis of changes in the world.

Learning outcomes to be acquired by the student after completion of the course in the field of:
knowledge:
- He has an extended knowledge of the problems of faith and reason in the context of cultural transformations in the period of the Enlightenment and modernity, whose basic feature is the paradigm of modernity.
- He knows basic philosophical and theological interpretations of the definition of modernity and post-modernity.
- Knows the historical and evolutionary reasons for the ontological departure of perceiving the world (and man within it) from the perspective of God
skills:
- The student grasps issues of faith in the context of contemporary challenges of the Church.
- Student achieves the ability to critically analyze the texts of the Magisterium of the Church concerning Catholic Social Teaching and to formulate conclusions.
- The student is able to use theological and historical arguments and terminology defined in the lecture concerning religion, faith in God, Revelation, credibility of the Church.
Social competences:
- Is aware of the positive influence of the texts of the Second Vatican Council, especially the pastoral constitution on the Church in the modern world Gaudium et Spes, on the development of the dialogue of European culture, its promotion of religious freedom, the pursuit of unity among diversity.
Assessment criteria
- The method of verification of the overall learning outcomes refer to the written work on The mission of the Church in the diversity of potentialities of variable socio-cultural factors, positive and negative for the transmission of the Gospel. The work of up to 20,000 characters is to demonstrate knowledge of the issues presented in the lecture, to show familiarity with the issues of faith in the context of contemporary challenges of the Church, to be a confirmation of the will to build a dialogue of European culture, which is characterised by freedom of religion, striving for unity among diversity.
