Ecumenism and Christian Unity WT-FW-ZE
The course Ecumenism aims to introduce students to the issue of Christian unity from theological, historical, and pastoral perspectives. The course focuses on the origins of divisions within Christianity, the development of the ecumenical movement, and the analysis of key documents and initiatives in dialogue between Churches and ecclesial communities.
During the classes, students will explore key issues in ecumenical dialogue, such as the understanding of the Church, sacraments, ministry, and authority in different Christian traditions. Particular attention will be given to identifying common ground and recognizing genuine doctrinal differences that continue to pose challenges to Christian unity.
A very important aspect of the course will be the concept of the “ecumenism of blood” and the broader situation of Christians around the world. Students will learn about the efforts undertaken by the Church and supporting organizations to address the persecution of Christians, as well as the impact of these persecutions on ecumenical initiatives.
