Fundamentals of addiction therapy WT-DTE-PTU
The classes concern the basics of addiction therapy. They are by no means intended to prepare students to be an addiction therapist, because training an addiction therapist requires very specialized classes. The basics of addiction therapy are only an introduction to such studies, and as part of the course for students of other faculties, they allow them to achieve minimal competences in the field of understanding the essence of addiction and ways of dealing with this dysfunction. Therefore, during the classes, the student becomes acquainted with various concepts concerning the genesis of addiction, types of addiction, factors contributing to addiction, as well as various psychological approaches to support the addicted person and his relatives. It is also important to be aware of the cultural, social and family environment that may strengthen or weaken addiction tendencies. Eventually, the student also acquires orientation in dealing with the addicted person and with those who live in direct relations with him. Addiction therapy classes attach great importance to how the problem of addiction is treated - both as an individual and social problem, which translates into personal well-being or the lack of it, and generates social problems and costs. The matter of addiction prevention and the state's care for the family and protection of the weak and excluded should be considered important in this respect.
