The specific aim of the classes is:
- to prepare students for creating and delivering presentations on a chosen topic in a professional manner, taking into account the principles of public speaking,
- to deepen students' skills in self-presentation, public speaking, and active participation in discussions,
- to prepare students for presenting their own beliefs and work in a brilliant, verbally and non-verbally attractive way.

1. Introduction to the course, principles, and establishment of the exercise contract |
Term 2024/25_L:
The primary objective of the course is to prepare students for the effective creation, preparation, and delivery of presentations and public speeches. Throughout the practical sessions, students will acquire not only the necessary theoretical knowledge but, most importantly, the practical skills required to construct a clear message, tailor content to their audience, and effectively manage the stress associated with public speaking. The course places particular emphasis on developing communication competence, which includes the ability to establish a connection with the audience, actively engage listeners, and respond to their questions and feedback. Special attention will be given to enhancing non-verbal communication, such as gestures and voice modulation, as well as mastering the art of persuasion, enabling participants to build confidence and authenticity during their presentations. |

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student:
EK 1 – possesses in-depth knowledge of public speaking and presentations, understands the processes of interpersonal and social communication in various aspects and public communication situations;
EK 2 – has an advanced understanding of the rules of the Polish language, stylistic, rhetorical, and argumentative devices, body language in public communication situations, presentations, and public speeches, as well as the principles of conducting public debates;
EK 3 – is capable of formulating oral statements in Polish publicly, during presentations and public speeches, while considering the principles of media communication;
EK 4 – is able to speak publicly in a competent, effective, appropriate, fluent, and professional manner as a representative of institutions and organizations, both orally and in writing, across different types of media;
EK 5 – is prepared for competent public communication, including thinking and acting entrepreneurially in the field of public presentations and media and journalistic ventures.
Assessment criteria
EK 1 – Assessment criteria:
Dst (3): knows some concepts and principles related to public presentations and speeches, is familiar with a few processes of interpersonal and social communication;
Db (4): knows most concepts and principles related to public presentations and speeches, has a good understanding of several processes of interpersonal and social communication;
Bdb (5): possesses in-depth and well-organized knowledge about the processes of interpersonal and social communication.
EK 2 – Assessment criteria:
Dst (3): can list some concepts from the field of linguistic pragmatics and speech act theory, but cannot explain or describe them accurately; briefly presents the principles of constructing intended linguistic utterances in presentations and public speeches;
Db (4): knows the basic concepts and content in the field of linguistic pragmatics and the principles of constructing purposeful linguistic utterances but does not do so fluently; the definitions provided are incomplete;
Bdb (5): has excellent knowledge of linguistic pragmatics concepts and content and can fully define them in the context of public presentations and speeches; freely identifies and describes the principles of constructing intended linguistic utterances in presentations and public speeches.
EK 3 – Assessment criteria:
Dst (3): can recognize only some aspects of speech acts as elements of communicative action in the context of presentations and public speeches;
Db (4): can recognize most aspects of speech acts as elements of communicative action in presentations and public speeches;
Bdb (5): can recognize all aspects of speech acts as elements of communicative action in presentations and public speeches.
EK 4 – Assessment criteria:
Dst (3): can sometimes speak as a representative of institutions and organizations, both orally and in writing, across different types of media, but only in certain situations;
Db (4): can express themselves reasonably well as a representative of institutions and organizations, both orally and in writing, across different types of media;
Bdb (5): can speak fluently and effectively as a representative of institutions and organizations, both orally and in writing, across different types of media.
EK 5 – Assessment criteria:
Dst (3): is occasionally ready to think and act entrepreneurially in the field of media and journalistic ventures, but cannot effectively implement this in communication actions;
Db (4): is often ready to think and act entrepreneurially in the field of media and journalistic ventures and can implement it well in communication actions;
Bdb (5): is always ready to think and act entrepreneurially in the field of media and journalistic ventures.
