The course aims to present the specifics of financial institutions, their operating mechanisms and their role in the economic system. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the principles of operation of banks, insurance companies, investment funds and pension funds.
As part of the course, students will learn about legal and supervisory regulations concerning the financial sector, financial risk management methods and financial instruments used in the activities of institutions.
Students will learn about the practical aspects of asset and liability management, financial strategies of institutions, and will analyse examples of the activities of financial sector entities in Poland and worldwide.
The course also aims to develop skills in independent financial analysis of institutions, assessing their effectiveness and identifying potential threats and risks. Students will practise working with financial reports and market data.

Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria for the course ‘Finance of Financial Institutions’:
· 2 – the student has not familiarised themselves with the curriculum, does not know the basic concepts related to the subject matter, and has not participated in classes or activities.
· 3 – the student has familiarised themselves with the content to a basic degree, completed the minimum range of tasks, knows the basic concepts, and participated in classes without additional activity.
· 4 – the student has mastered the material to a high degree, is able to analyse selected institutions, knows the basic concepts and can apply them, and participated actively in classes.
· 5 – the student has mastered the material to a very high degree, knows and can apply basic and additional concepts, solves practical problems, has prepared a full analysis of a selected institution, and was an active participant in classes and discussions.
