Lecture 1: overview of international integration issues; history of integration processes in Europe; international legal personality of the EU;
Lecture 2: Common institutional framework – EU institutions;
Lecture 3: Scope of EU law; Member States and the EU (principle of loyal cooperation, transfer of powers from Member States as the basis for EU law, principle of primacy of EU law, principle of direct effect, obligation to ensure the effectiveness of EU law in national law, State liability for violations of EU law);
Lecture 4: Axiology of EU law; sources of EU law (primary law, general principles of EU law, secondary law, international agreements) and interpretation of EU law;
Lecture 5: creation of EU law (creation of primary law, conclusion of international agreements with third parties, enactment of secondary law); methods of integration (unification, harmonisation, coordination); implementation of EU law into the national legal order;
Lecture 6: judicial and extrajudicial control of compliance with EU law; complaints of infringement of EU law, complaints for annulment, complaints of inaction by EU institutions, complaints for damages, allegations of illegality, requests for interim measures;
Lecture 7: preliminary ruling procedure;
Lecture 8: the individual in the EU (EU citizenship, protection of fundamental rights); EU financing;

Assessment criteria
Assessment methods: Passing the exercises is a prerequisite for admission to the examination. The examination takes place after the lectures have been completed, in the form of a written test and case studies.
The examination will consist of a test comprising 30 multiple-choice questions and three case studies. A minimum of 60% correct answers is required to pass.
PR_W05: The student knows and understands the institutional system of the European Union and the functioning of the Union's institutions and its legal system.
For a grade of 2, the student does not know and understand the institutional system of the European Union and the functioning of the Union's institutions and its legal system.
For a grade of 3, the student only partially knows and understands the institutional system of the European Union and the functioning of the Union's institutions and its legal system.
For a grade of 4, the student has a good knowledge and understanding of the institutional system of the European Union and the functioning of the Union's institutions and its legal system. They are able to identify their competences as well as the mutual relations between them. They are also able to apply European Union law at both the national level and before the institutions of the Union.
Grade 5: The student has a very good knowledge and understanding of the institutional system of the European Union and the functioning of the Union's institutions and its legal system. They are able to define their competences and the mutual relations between them. They are also able to apply European Union law at a very good level, both at national level and before the institutions of the Union.
