Modern Art of Poland WNHS-HS-PNPć
The history of modern plastic arts in Poland, with particular emphasis on architecture, painting and sculpture, from the early and mature baroque, late baroque to rococo, in a broad historical and cultural context.In addition, graphic arts and modern artistic crafts in Poland will be discussed during the exercises.
The classes are designed to broaden the knowledge of the subject, with a particular focus on selected topics, which are developed by the students in the form of a multimedia presentation.

- Has a structured knowledge of the development of art, including advanced terminology and basic research methods of art history
- Has a structured detailed knowledge of Polish art of the modern era.
- Has a basic knowledge of the relationship of art history to other humanities, including philosophy and literature.
-Knows and understands the basic methods of analysis and interpretation of works of art appropriate to selected traditions, theories and schools of research.
-Has an awareness of the complex transformations of culture, the complexity and historical variability of its meanings.
Skills:
- Can search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information on works of art using a variety of sources and modalities, including the ability to use Internet resources and computer databases of cultural institutions. Be able to use specialist language and apply appropriate terminology used to describe and analyse.
-Has basic research skills, including problem formulation and analysis, selection of research methods and tools, development and presentation of results.
-Knows how to acquire knowledge and develop skills independently, following the guidance of the supervisor.
-Able to recognise different types and kinds of works of art and products of visual culture, and to carry out their critical analysis and interpretation, using typical methods, in order to determine their meanings, social impact and place in the historical-cultural process.
-Has the ability to argue substantively, citing the views of scholars. Is able to formulate conclusions.
-Able to communicate using various communication channels and techniques to the extent that he/she is able to converse freely in Polish and foreign language on general topics and those related to his/her field of study.
-Possesses the ability to construct a logical written and oral statement in Polish and foreign language, combined with the correct elaboration of a typescript with research apparatus and presentation of photographs of works of art.
Competences:
-Able to work in a group, taking on a variety of roles within it.
-Able to appropriately identify priorities for the achievement of a specific task.
-Participates actively in cultural life using its various forms.

Students will have a structured knowledge of the development of modern art in Europe and Poland, including advanced terminology and basic research methods of art history.
The student has basic knowledge of the connections of art history with other humanities, including philosophy and literature.
SKILLS
The student is able to search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information concerning works of art, using various sources and methods, including the Internet resources and computer databases of cultural institutions.
Students will learn to use specialist language and apply appropriate terminology used to describe and analyse works of art. He/she has basic research skills, including formulation and analysis of problems, selection of research methods and tools, elaboration and presentation of results. Following the guidance of the academic supervisor, is able to acquire knowledge and develop skills independently.
They are able to use basic theoretical approaches, research paradigms and concepts in art history. He/she is able to recognise different types and kinds of works of art and products of visual culture, as well as to conduct their critical analysis and interpretation using typical methods in order to determine their meanings, social impact and place in the historical-cultural process. Has the ability to argue substantively, citing the views of researchers. Is able to formulate conclusions. Has the ability to construct a logical written and oral statement in Polish, combined with correct typescript preparation with research apparatus and presentation of photographs of works of art. Reads professional literature in a foreign language.
SOCIAL COMPETENCES
Independently acquires knowledge and takes part in cultural life.
Assessment criteria
Classes take place at the WNHS UKSW.
Field classes in selected museums in the capital city of Warsaw and the city of Krakow are also planned.
Preparation for classes 15 hours.
Preparation of multimedia presentations together with a paper 10 hrs.
Assessment:
Papers combined with the presentation of illustrative material in multimedia form on a chosen topic, indicated by the instructor.
A prerequisite for passing the course is attendance at classes (two unexcused absences from classes are allowed).
A detailed schedule of the work, including field activities, will be presented at the first class.
Papers combined with multimedia presentations are subject to assessment.
The grade also reflects the level of prepared papers.
