Doctor-patient communication WMCM-LE-KLP-sem
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic methods / models of communication, allowing for a satisfactory both sides of the act of communication (doctor and patient) diagnostic and therapeutic conversation, according to the requirements of modern medicine and the influence of the media on mutual communication expectations.
The classes will cover the following topics:
1. Determining what a conversation that satisfies both sides of the act of communication is
2. Stereotypes and prejudices and communication in a doctor's office
3. Cultural and social diversity of understanding the terms "health" and "disease" in the doctor-patient relationship
4. Time management when communicating with the patient
5. Communication with a patient with mental disorders
6. Communication with a terminally ill patient
7. Communication in the therapeutic team

KNOWLEDGE:
WBKL_B.W33. - knows the possibilities of modern telemedicine as a tool supporting the work of a doctor;
WBKL_D.W01. - knows the current state of knowledge about the social dimension of health and disease, the impact of the social environment (family, social networks) and social inequalities on health, as well as about socio-cultural differences and the role of social stress in health and self-destructive behaviors;
WBKL_D.W03. - understands the importance of health, disease, disability
and old age in relation to social attitudes, social consequences of illness and disability, as well as socio-cultural barriers, knows the current concept of health-related quality of life;
WBKL_D.W04. - understands the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication
in the process of communicating with patients and the concept of trust in interaction with the patient;
WBKL_D.W12. - knows the principles of motivating patients to pro-health behavior and informing about unfavorable prognosis;

SKILLS
WBKL_D.U01. - takes into account the subjective needs and expectations of the patient in the process of therapeutic treatment
from socio-cultural conditions;

WBKL_D.U04. - can build a trusting atmosphere throughout the treatment process;
WBKL_D.U05. - is able to conduct a conversation with an adult patient, child and family using the technique of active listening and expressing empathy, as well as talk to the patient about his life situation;

and the possible risk of the proposed diagnostic or therapeutic measures and obtain its informed consent;

Assessment criteria
The condition for passing the course is active participation in online classes, preparation of an individual work on a topic assigned by the teacher and discussing it in public (team project).

The dst (3) grade from the course is given to the student who, during the course and presentation of the final knowledge project, will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the state of knowledge on the social dimension of health and disease, the impact of the social environment (family, social networks) and social inequalities on health and on socio-cultural differences and the role of social stress in health and self-destructive behaviors.
In terms of skills, demonstrate knowledge of the basic models of communication with an adult patient, child and family using the technique of active listening and expressing empathy, as well as talking to the patient about his life situation;
In terms of social skills, he will demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain respectful contact with the sick person.
The db (4) grade for the course is awarded to the student who, apart from meeting the requirements for the dst (3) during the course and presentation of the final knowledge project, demonstrate knowledge of the main concepts, theories, principles and ethical rules serving as a general framework for the correct interpretation of patients' communication behavior
In terms of skills, they will also demonstrate the ability to provide the patient and his family with information about unfavorable prognosis and the ability to provide advice on compliance with therapeutic recommendations and a healthy lifestyle;
In terms of social skills, demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain respectful contact with the patient and the ability to be guided by the patient's well-being, putting the patient's needs first;
A very good (5) grade for the course is given to the student who, in addition to meeting the requirements for the db (4) grade, during the course and the presentation of the final knowledge project, will demonstrate knowledge of the cultural importance of the concept of health, disease, disability and old age in relation to social attitudes and knowledge of diseases and disabilities as well as the knowledge of the current concept of health-related quality of life.
In terms of skills, he will also demonstrate the ability to use - at a basic level - psychological motivating and supportive interventions, and is able to communicate with teammates by providing constructive feedback and support.
In terms of social skills, he will demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain respectful contact with the patient and the ability to be guided by the patient's well-being, putting the patient's needs first.
