The subject familiarizes students with the history of European culture from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. The lecture covers issues in the field of literature, art, philosophy and science, placing them in the historical, religious and political context. The emphasis is on familiarizing the student with the most significant literary, historical and other texts created in the European and Polish tradition from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment, which had a significant impact on the history of culture, were its expression or described its manifestations.

Learning outcomes
The student defines concepts such as the Middle Ages and modern times and is able to outline their time frames. The student knows concepts such as: Romanesque art, Gothic, Renaissance, humanism, Baroque, Mannerism, Rococo, Enlightenment, Reformation, Counter-Reformation.
The student knows the main directions of development and evolution of European culture. He is able to place them in the context of political, economic and social history.
