Introduction to Sociology of Culture WH-KU-I-1-PodSocKul
The aim of the lecture is to introduce students of cultural studies to the sociological understanding of culture. The lecture will reveal the essence of culture as the context of human life. It will provide knowledge about processes and phenomena occurring within culture. This will help in a reflective and critical approach to the contemporary culture surrounding students and the dynamisms in which they participate and will participate in the next stages of socialization. In this way, the classes will be an introduction to the sociological understanding of culture (sociological imagination) but also provide the necessary knowledge needed for efficient participation in the surrounding culture. In other words, owls are an opportunity for students to acquire greater freedom in social relations. Assuming that the human person emerges from the relationship to culture, a course of sociology of culture can be an important step in students' life to maturation into personally understood humanity.
During the lecture, basic issues in the field of sociology of culture will be discussed. Knowledge of the basic elements of social life and the functioning of culture will be provided. The concepts of both individuals and social groups, their static and dynamic dimensions (cultural change) will be explained. In addition, lectures will outline the history of the development of sociology and the characteristics of contemporary culture. It will be shown what culture is and how it works, what laws and mechanisms it is subject to. The mechanisms and laws governing the development of culture will be presented. Such basic concepts in the field of sociology will be discussed as: identity, social structures, social group, socialization, social movements, interaction, bond, social role, organization and institution. The lecture will also cover such general concepts as society, culture, community and religion.
