(in Polish) The idea of nation and the political cultures in Italy in the XIX and XX centuries WH-KON-U2-IDEANAT
The general objective of the course is to illustrate Italian political cultures in the twentieth century in relation to some main historical events: The legacy of the Risorgimento; The rise and crisis of the liberal state; the advent of fascism; the birth of the Republic; the emergence of populism.
The course is divided into four sections. The first examines the idea of the Italian nation from the Risorgimento to the birth of the nationalist movement. During the lessons, particular attention will be paid to the concept of Italian identity starting from some reflections by Ernesto Galli Della Loggia and to the representation of the nation based on the works of Pasquale Stanislao Mancini and Federico Chabod. The second section will concern the liberal state, its affirmation and its crisis, according to the interpretations of Giovanni Papini, Giuseppe Prezzolini, Gaetano Salvemini, Antonio Gramsci. The third section deals with fascism, as a historical period and as a doctrine, and the analysis of the causes of a historical and ideological nature, which marked its trajectory and its end. The fourth part of the course concerns the birth of the Republic and the confrontation of different political cultures united by anti-fascism with the exception of the heirs of the Italian Social Republic who merged into the MSI. In this framework, among others, the figures of Alcide De Gasperi, Palmiro Togliatti, Pietro Nenni, Aldo Moro, Ugo La Malfa stand out and their political perspective conditioned by international politics and relations with the Vatican. The last part of the course is dedicated to the end of the "republic of parties" and the emergence of Italian-style populism which marks a period of great transformations in terms of the welfare state and the protection of rights.
