(in Polish) Statius' Thebaid: world divided WH-KON-StaTheWor
Discussion of Statius'complex poem with emphasis on problems raised by the semantic intricacies of intertextuality. The discussion will trace the filiations of Statian imagery while highlighting its importance for the reading of the poem. The many divisions of the Statian world will be read against the wider backgrouns of preceding literary tradition, particularly Lucan and Virgil. Formal extravagancies of the poem will be considered against the established Alexandrian tradition.

W: student posesses advanced kwledge of literary techniques available to imperial poets, in depth understanding of Statius' individual contribution to Latinb literature, his idiolect, his individual poetic voice and standing.
U: student assimilated the methodology indispensable in reading of imperial poetry.

in depth reading of a selected passage of the poem
5: student displays easy familarity with the entirety of the poem and contemporary literature, competently alludes to other works relevant to chosen subject; manifests practical knowledge and understanding of methodological principles of text interpretation.
4: student displays familiarity with important texts and phenomena of Latin literature, his/her understanding of methodology allows for easy employment of the appropriate repertoire.
3 student displays basic knowledge of the poem and problems related to its interpretation; student displays adequate understanding of the basic principles of methodology
