Scandinavian design – sustainability and egalitarianism in practice WH-KON-SD
The course introduces students to issues of Scandinavian design through the lens of sustainability and egalitarian design principles.
The course begins with an introductory note on the origins of design in Scandinavia and an explanation of the phenomenon of "Scandinavian design". - a term used to describe the artistic design achievements of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway.
Questions of the historical significance of design for the development of Scandinavian culture, especially during the modern period, are presented. Through the portrayal of the history and development of design from a socio-cultural perspective, students learn about the significance of design for the everyday functioning of society. The transformative potential of good design for citizens is also shown. In addition, the approach to nature is addressed, which is directly related to the principles of sustainability that were introduced very early on in Scandinavia. The course allows students to look at the design of the North as a benchmark for good design practices that go far beyond just aesthetics and functionality.
