(in Polish) Scandinavian design and its cultural significance WH-KON-MU-SC
This course offers students an in-depth look at the significance of design in the Scandinavian region and its wider cultural contexts. Participants will explore the concept of 'Scandinavian design', a term used to define the celebrated design heritage of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway.
The module delves into the historical meaning of 'Scandinavian', an adjective that once referred exclusively to the three kingdoms of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. We will discuss how, in a modern context, the term has expanded to include the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Finland, reflecting shared geography and cultural foundations.
Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the Nordic region's achievements in design. Furthermore, the course will situate these works within the broader field of visual culture, examining the role of design as a powerful tool for promotion and non-verbal communication.
