(in Polish) Culture in Relational Perspective WH-KON-KU-II-CRP
This course examines modern culture from a relational perspective, focusing on how contemporary cultural patterns shape social relationships and individual identities. Modern societies strongly emphasize autonomy, self-realization, and personal freedom. At the same time, many observers point to experiences of loneliness, weakened social ties, and social fragmentation. How does modern culture produce these tensions? What kinds of relationships emerge in a culture that places such strong value on individual independence?
The course analyzes the cultural logics that shape ways of life and patterns of social relations. Culture is approached analytically and without normative assumptions, with attention both to processes of disembeddedness—such as the loosening of traditional bonds and growing individual responsibility—and to forms of embeddedness, including reciprocity, recognition, and mutual responsibility.
Through the reading of classical and contemporary sociological and philosophical texts, students will explore how modern culture shapes the tension between individual autonomy and relational interdependence and how these dynamics influence relationships in contemporary societies.
