The course addresses theoretical and practical issues related to teaching Italian to preschool-aged children. Particular attention is paid to children’s language and cognitive development, the ways in which they acquire a foreign language, and the selection of methods and materials appropriate for young learners.
The course presents a variety of teaching approaches that support natural, active and engaging language learning. Selected principles of Montessori education are also considered, including the development of learner independence, learning through action and experience, the use of a carefully prepared environment, and the adaptation of activities to each child’s individual pace of development.
The aim of the course is to develop students’ ability to plan and prepare Italian language teaching activities adapted to the needs of preschool-aged children.
