The scope of the course’s issues will include:
Analysis of the theoretical texts in class to develop student’s ability to present a theoretical text in English.
Independent student’s work: reading of theoretical texts on translation studies.
Examining literary texts from various perspectives: when seen as the source text, and as the translated text.
A Descriptive Method in Translation Studies.
The experience of translation - the experience of the other.
A creator as a translator.
A translator as a creator.
Literary works will be analysed in fragments.

Learning outcomes
T_W02 (FP2_W04) has an advanced knowledge of key works of world literature and has an in-depth understanding of the role their translations have played in Polish literature and culture
T_W03 (FP2_W05) at advanced level
knows the literary canon of particular epochs, including translations of outstanding works and the scope of their reception
understands cultural contexts and their impact on the translation of works, knows the achievements of Polish translation studies devoted to them
T_U01 (FP2_U01) can search, critically analyse, creatively interpret and synthesize information on translation theory
T_U02 (FP2_U02) can identify and solve translation problems, apply the learned translation methods and tools to new problems
T_U03 (FP2_U03) can use professional terms and research tools in literary studies, including translation studies, and independently analyse and interpret a complex work of literature, theatre and film
T_U04 (FP2_U07) can use a foreign language (level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), and use specialist terminology in literary studies
T_K01 (FP2_K01) is ready to evaluate its knowledge of literary studies in translation and to confront it with the latest findings, as well as to consult experts and improve its quality
Assessment criteria
The student takes part in all classes in the cycle actively:
demonstrates knowledge of theoretical texts,
finds an adequate quote,
knows the vocabulary of literary studies in English,
can take their stance on the analyzed problem.
The grade from the winter semester counts for the final assessment.
There are three aspects to the oral assessment:
a) knowledge of the content of the texts read in Polish and English (knowledge of theory, critical opinions, terminology)
b) the ability to make a comparative analysis of fragments of different translations of the same fragment of a literary work
c)concerning the efficiency of formulating statements in English.
