World Literature WH-FP-II-1-LiterPow
Lectures devoted to particular works are aimed at:
- outlining the historical background, literary context and genre
- preparing the audience to interpret them independently
- showing the significance of the history of the reception of the work for its Interpretation
- showing how the work is incorporated into a functioning cultural paradigm
- bringing out the local, national colour characteristic of the work, its position in the canon of national literature
- analysis of poetics and methods of depiction as well as aesthetic transformations
in the literature of different epochs.
The issue of mutual influences and inspirations, motifs, images, key words, polemics and discussions on a universal scale will also be important.
The reception of a work of art depends to a large extent on its translation, which is why "canonical" translations of masterpieces will also be presented

Assessment criteria
The assessment shall be subject to
- systematic and active participation in classes
- an oral answer concerning the content of the readings, their issues and the terminology learned.
An unsatisfactory grade is for a student who does not know the content of the readings, has not actively participated in classes, cannot identify and discuss a selected analytical problem, and does not use literary terminology.
A satisfactory grade is for a student who knows the content of the discussed readings, presents the issues imitatively, has participated in classes, knows the basic terms of literary studies, and can indicate a basic bibliography on a given problem.
A good grade is awarded to a student who has read the readings carefully and can answer questions with a high degree of detail about the content. He indicates important research problems and their contexts in the selected work. He/she can reconstructively analyse a selected issue. Has a theoretical level of knowledge and can give literary examples for literary terms.
A very good grade is for a student who has actively participated in classes, knows all the readings in great detail, can independently analyze the indicated problem regarding the literature on the subject, uses the terminology of literary studies consciously and fluently, and can formulate well-founded critical opinions.
