The subject allows to learn about the value of wetlands, the fauna of these areas, and also familiarizes you with the biology, ecology and threats of endangered representatives of invertebrates and vertebrates in these environments. It also allows to learn about the forms of activities aimed at protecting such habitats and the endangered species that inhabit them. The subject helps to prepare a bachelor's thesis in the field of broadly understood ecology and animal protection inhabiting wetlands.
How to prepare term papers
Scientific research - a way of presenting the results: poster, multimadia presentation, manuscript
Subjects:
National aquatic invertebrates, rivers, ponds and lakes
National aquatic invertebrates, wet meadows, bogs
Types of environments in the valleys of the rivers: riparian forests, old river-beds, steep riverbanks, islands
Polish fish species of standing or slowly moving waters
Polish fish species of streams, rivers, brackish and saline waters
The significance of river valleys and riverbeds as breeding, roosting and foraging sites and migrating routes. Ecological corridor concept.
Fauna of unregulated rivers and old river-beds
Fauna of riparian forests
Fauna of standing or slowly moving waters: a significance as breeding, roosting, foraging sites and migrating sites for national rare and endangered species

Learning outcomes
1.Knowledge:
EK 1 - the student understands and explains the importance of factors responsible for the distribution and diversity of wetland fauna and flora; interprets the importance of the various factors influencing the status of selected species;
recognizes and characterizes fauna of selected types of wetlands, identifies, classifies, and analyzes disruptions and threats affecting the distribution of wetland fauna and its diversity; presents forms of protection measures for endangered vertebrates and invertebrates inhabiting wetlands
EK 2 - the student knows statistical tools at a level that allows describing natural phenomena
2. Skills:
EK 3 - the student uses different source of information in Polish and English (for example, maps, photographs, interview, Internet, professional journals) makes the analysis, synthesis, summary, critical evaluation and correct conclusions
EK 4 – in research (field) work, the student interprets observations and measurements and draws correct conclusions on their basis
EK 5 -the student puts the correct hypotheses about the causes of the threats
3. Competences:
EK 6 – the student knows the scope of his/her interdisciplinary knowledge and abilities, understands the need for continuous training;
EK 7 - the student demonstrates caution and criticism while studying and communicating information on the ecology of wetland animals from the scientific literature, the Internet, and particularly available in the mass media
EK 8 – the student understands the need for continuing to deepen his/her language skills and can independently use of the variety of sources. Able to read and understand general and specialized texts
Assessment criteria
The final grade is composed of:
The evaluation of the presentations prepared by the student (1) on the subject of the seminar and (2) the prepared thesis. The evaluation will assess the form, content and presentation, and the ability to find suitable material for presentation
The assessment of quizzes on the recognition of the Polish wetland fauna.
Mode of assessment: <51% point of the quiz - score 2; 51,1-55,0% - score 2 +; 55,1-60,0% - score 3 -, 60,1-65,0% - score 3 , 65,1-70,0% - 3 + score, 70,1-74,9% - score 4 -; 75,0-80,0% - score 4; 80,1-85,0% - score 4 +, 85,1-90% - score 5 -,> 90% - score 5
in the summer semester it is the arithmetic mean of the presentation evaluation and the average of the ratings of the quizzes. To pass the course it is necessary at least satisfactory grade for both quizzes, presentations and the thesis.
Absences reduce final assessment in accordance with the principle: for the third and each subsequent absence semester assessment is reduced by 0.5, 6 or more absences will result in failure of the seminar.
Evaluation of the activity during the course (participation in a discussion)
The number of absences and lateness
Further detailed assessment criteria will be given to participants during the course.
