Obligatory classes of the Greek - 30 hours per semester , 60 hours per year .
Grading - tests .
The aim of the course is
- to become skilful at reading and writing in Classical Greek,
- to find ways and tools for independent, unassisted translation.
Participants of the course will learn the basic principles of grammar and specific vocabulary and guidelines for the use of the original texts

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: The student 1. knows the ancient Greek alphabet; 2. recognizes the basic parts of speech; 3. is able to explain grammatical forms.
Abilities: The student: 4. is able to read the ancient Greek alphabet and interprets all its signs; 5. can write and use the dictionary; 6. understands simple sentences
Competences: The student: 7. reads simple sentences with comprehension; 8. realizes the necessity of working with a dictionary, 9. is aware of word meanings in dependence of the author, time of origin and subject area, among others; 10. cares about linguistic correctness in translation

participation in classes 15x1,5h = 22,5 h
preparation for classes 15 x 0,5h = 7,5 h

Assessment criteria
The final grade consists of:
- an assessment of the student’s preparation for each week’s classes
- passing all quick-check tests
- the student’s activity in class
Assessment methods:
Current evaluation- checking home writing assignments (only handwritten Greek script) – (2-5)
- evaluation of the student’s preparation for class (pass or no)
- evaluation of quick-check tests – 50% - 3 - is a pass; 90% - 5
- checking the student’s knowledge of the alphabet - assessment of the student’s reading skills
- final test at the end of the semester (2-5, 35% is a grade of dst –D)
