1. Defining the subject of ethics and the creation of the division of ethics.

2. Presentation of the main ethical traditions with particular emphasis on their metaethical assumptions.

3. Presentation of the most important dilemmas as well as development prospects of modern metaethics.

5. Analysis of selected ethical issues with particular emphasis on metaethical issues.

Learning outcomes

As a result of completion of this course, the student should be able to:

• define the purpose and methodology of ethics

• List and describe the major positions in the dispute about the nature of moral evaluation

• competently use basic concepts of axiology

As a result of completion of this course the student should be able to:

• analyze the major ethical position in disputes with regard to their basic assumptions

• formulate their own beliefs in terms of normative philosophical axiology

• undertake discussions with representatives of alternative normative-ideological positions

As a result of completion of this course the student should:

• recognize the philosophical background behind the ideological diversity of ethical attitudes

• be open to dialogue with the representatives of different beliefs

Assessment criteria

Assessment: participation in lectures, knowledge of the mandatory required reading material and the oral exam.
