Degradation of materials in the environment and methods of protection WB-IS-41-21
The subject concerns degradation processes occurring in building objects in the context of used building materials. The subject of damage to building materials and methods of their protection were taken up.
Degradation processes related to moisture in building materials, fungus, mechanical damage, problems related to errors at the design stage, execution errors or resulting from lack of maintenance and supervision of the condition of the object. Examples of degraded facilities, methods of protection, both technical and resulting from security through the relevant provisions of construction law and monument conservation. Methods for detecting technical problems in buildings (including the use of thermography). Other aspects related to the subject of degradation of building materials and their protection. Protection of materials through appropriate coatings, ensuring special storage conditions during storage. Selected industry literature.
The subject does not include the lecture, hence the great emphasis has been placed on the theoretical dimension (exercise reports).
Selected detailed topics:
- Concrete and masonry renovation: general characteristics of damages and systems

Learning outcomes
According to plan.
The basis for obtaining credit and awarding the prescribed ECTS is the performance of reports (student's own work at home and participation in classes (performing tasks arising from the subject of the given classes).
Assessment criteria
Attendance is obligatory. Exercise reports form the basis for passing the subject. The report may be made only by persons participating in classes on a given topic, which is the basis of the report.
Lack of reports makes it impossible to pass the course. All absences must be excused.
The reports are in writing (in some cases electronic form is allowed, as agreed in class).
Reports must be submitted for evaluation within the prescribed periods.
Works performed by several people are allowed (according to the arrangements in class).
Practical placement
Not available for this exercises.
