Animal psychology WB-BI-MGR-10
The aim of the lectures is;
- review of the basics of knowledge in zoology, ethology and neurobiology;
- acquiring the basics of knowledge about the mechanisms of animal behavior and the motivation of this behavior;
- presentation of the latest knowledge about the plasticity of animal behavior, their learning and invention in solving unknown problems;
-to teach how to be critical in relation to descriptions of the behavior and mental abilities of animals.
- to provide an overview of the behavior of animals of different evolutionary groups, both invertebrates and vertebrates of all classes.

Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE: The student understands complex biological phenomena and processes conditioning the behavior of animals belonging to different evolutionary lines; has knowledge of basic concepts, terms and names related to the structure and functioning of the nervous system; has in-depth knowledge of the exact sciences related to biology, in particular the nutritional biology of various species, their reproductive biology and predator avoidance strategies; has general and specific knowledge of animal behavior; has knowledge of current ethological problems.
In terms of skills: the student is fluent in using literature on ecology and ethology in Polish; is able to critically analyze and select information, especially from non-peer reviewed electronic sources; is able to acquire and interpret empirical data in the field of systematics, ethology and ecology, and on this basis to formulate appropriate conclusions; has the ability to form reasonable judgments based on data from various sources.
Relating to competences: The student will broaden the knowledge of the biological mechanisms of animal behavior and their skills, will be aware of the limitations of their cognitive abilities, and at the same time the plasticity of behavior and learning, also in invertebrate animals. This knowledge will enable him to establish cooperation with institutions that protect nature and take care of various species of animals. It will also extend his competences as a biology teacher.
Assessment criteria
The exam will have the written form, time to write it - 90 minutes. Three questions will be asked about the problems discussed in the lectures. The student should present his knowledge and thoughts on the questions asked. Scoring: 0-10 points for each answer, the total is a maximum of 30 points. Grades (on a scale from 2 to 5) will be awarded based on the total of points obtained. The minimum for grade "3" is 15 points, and for grade "5" - 27 points. Intermediate grades will be awarded in proportion to the number of points scored. Both the exam on the first date and the exam in the second term will be held according to the same rules.
