Biodemography WB-BI-42-22ćw
Demography as a quantitative description of human populations. Distribution of people in geographic space, in political and national units. Relations between populations and their environments – population density as a function of ecological conditions, population needs and their exploitative abilities. Population structure by sex, age and specific characteristics: economic roles, education, ethnicity.
Migrations: marital exchanges, seasonal economic migrations, mass migrations. Their impact on population structures by age, sex, social and ethnic composition.
Natural population movements. The concept of reproduction, reproduction measures, life table analysis, age, marital status, age specific fertility rates. Birth control. Natural increase and its measurement. Breeding systems and their influence on demographic indices. Epidemiological transitions and demographic changes. Demographic forecasts, their methods and interpretations.

Problem based practical tasks and group discussions. Students are given sheets specifying problems that they must solve selecting appropriate methods and carrying out calculations and sometimes plotting graphs. Their results are interpreted and discussed with other students
