Communicating Research Findings in Science and Beyond SzD-PS-KOMW
The course introduces PhD students to key principles of communicating research findings across various settings and formats. It combines theory with practice, enabling the development of skills related to:
- preparing and delivering conference presentations (talks, posters) in a clear and persuasive manner,
- tailoring messages for different stakeholder groups, including audiences outside academia,
- planning and implementing communication strategies in EU-funded grants (Dissemination, Exploitation, Communication),
- enhancing the societal impact of scientific research and methods for its assessment (Social Impact Assessment).

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
1 Effectively communicate research findings to different audiences, including academic and non-academic stakeholders.
2 Adapt their communication style and message to suit various stakeholder groups and levels of engagement.
3 Prepare and deliver clear and persuasive scientific presentations, both oral and poster formats, for academic conferences.
4 Develop and implement communication strategies in research projects, particularly in the context of EU-funded grants (Dissemination, Exploitation, Communication - D.E.C).
5 Assess and enhance the societal impact of their research, using relevant methods and frameworks.
6 Critically analyze case studies of research communication and apply best practices to their own projects.
7 Engage in interdisciplinary and cross-sector dialogue, fostering collaboration between academia and broader society.
Assessment criteria
Participation and engagement in class activities, including involvement in assigned tasks and completion of small homework assignments, will be evaluated.
The course is conducted in person and consists of three sessions, each lasting 5 teaching hours.
