Economy in perspective of four great religions WT-SSTA-EI
Statements such as "economy is the religion of our time", "political economy is the religion of capitalism" or "most companies have their own specific religion" indicate certain relationships between religion and economy. It is also known that Max Weber in his book "Protestant Ethics and the Spirit of Capitalism" linked the rise of modern capitalism with Protestantism. While such views may seem exaggerated, an examination of the history of economic thought suggests that religions have really influenced economics.
Thus, religions, including moral principles, carrying certain values, shaped culture also in the economic dimension. As a result, the questions arose: How do religions affect the economy? How does "homo oeconomicus" use religious principles? Can we talk about the consistency of religion and economy? The aim of the lecture is to show the dependence of economy on religious and moral conditions in the context of Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam.
