Killing non-combatants. Crimes against civilians during armed conflicts WSE-BWZ-ZN
According to the generally recognised theory of morally permissible methods of military engagement, soldiers fighting in war on behalf of their states are neither immunized nor implicated by the rightness or wrongness of the cause they represent. At the same time, all participants in combat operations, irrespective of the objective distribution of justified reasons for fighting between the parties to the conflict, are obliged to observe the rules defining the permissible methods of warfare, the so-called ius in bello. The most prominent among the latter is the rule prohibiting deliberate attacks on non-combatants. The lecture will analyse this rule and its contemporary justifications.
