Economic and monetary union WP-SPM-1-MON-UGiW
The aim of the course is for the student to acquire the skills and competences to understand and present issues related to the EU economic and monetary union
The issues discussed during the classes are:
1) European Union and its competences;
2) The origins of economic and monetary union;
3) Principles of economic and monetary policy;
4) Coordination of economic policies; Union financial assistance; a ban on loans to cover the deficit; exclusion of EU responsibility;
6) Purpose of the ESCB, Tasks of the ESCB, Tasks of the ECB, Issue of euro banknotes;
7) Structure of the ESCB;
8) Central bank independence;
9) banking union;
10) Supervision over the banking and capital markets;
11) Countries with a derogation; opt-out; the euro adoption process;
12) constitutional conditions for adopting the euro.

The student is able to (skill effect):
EU 1: explain the basic concepts of the European Union's EMUs and the differences between EMUs and other EU policies
EU 2: explain the role of states and its central bank in shaping the European Union's EMUs and the institutional system of EMUs
EU 3 to present in chronological order the various stages of the creation of the European Union EMUs
EU 4 discussing the objectives and tasks of the European Union EMU
EU 5 discusses constitutional and legal problems related to the participation of member states in the EMU
The student is able to discuss and present (the effect of competence)
EK 1: basic concepts in the field of EU EMUs and differences between EMUs and other EU policies
EK 2: the role of states and its central bank in shaping the unions of the European Union and the institutional system of the unions
EK 3 the chronology of the various stages of the creation of EMUs in the European Union
EK 4 objectives and tasks of the European Union union
EK 5 constitutional and legal problems related to the participation of member states in the EMU
Workload in ECTS:
participation in the lecture: 30 h
reading legal acts: 15 h
reading of the given case law: 5 h
preparation for the exam: 10 h
Total hours: 60
Number of ECTS 60/30 = 2 ECTS
Assessment criteria
The didactic method is a problem lecture combined with the direct activity of students, aimed at solving theoretical or practical problems of the EU union.
For the ndst assessment: does not have the skills and competences indicated in EU 1-5, EK 1-5;
For the assessment of sufficient: has the skills and competences indicated in EU 1-5, EK 1-5; at a basic level
For the db assessment: has the knowledge, skills and competences indicated in EU 1-5, EK 1-5;
For a very good grade: has the skills and competences indicated in EU 1-5, EK 1-5; to the full extent
