(in Polish) WMSF: W piekle z Dantem, w niebie z Beatrycze czyli rzecz o Boskiej Komedii. WF-FI-123-WMSFK-G21
The aim of the classes is to familiarize students with the characteristics of the 12th and 13th centuries in Western Europe and, against this background, to show the philosophical, theological and, consequently, cosmological concepts of the Italian poet and thinker Dante Alighieri, the image of the world present in the Divine Comedy. The lecture concerns interpretive clues in the analysis of the Divine Comedy and the presentation of the basic ideas contained in the poem. The classes will show the medieval way of understanding and seeing the world in a broad theological and philosophical perspective, with particular emphasis on the metaphysical concept (theory of being) and theology (theory of God and religion) adopted by Dante.

The classes are intended to make people aware of the complexity of the medieval way of viewing the world shown in the Divine Comedy. It is difficult for today's reader to understand Dante Alighieri's texts, because he lived in a culture in which Christian truths determined the rhythm of the day, week, years and stages of life, pointing to the meaning and purpose of human existence. He was stuck in a world where Christians had not only theological disputes, but also philosophical disputes, economic polemics and political conflicts. It is difficult to read Dante's stanzas, because Dante somehow assumes that the reader is perfectly familiar with the texts of the Bible, Aristotelian and Thomistic concepts, medieval legends and fourteenth-century Florentine and Tuscan "currents". The classes are aimed at helping students understand and grasp the most important themes of the Divine Comedy - cosmology, philosophy, theology and theory of salvation.
