The course introduces students to the potential use of microbiological and biotechnological tools in the field of environmental protection and sustainability, mainly in environmental assessment, soil, water and air quality monitoring and bioremediation.
This course shows the great diversity of microorganisms and their roles in natural processes in soil, water and air. Students will learn how microorganisms contribute to the assessment of environmental quality. The course will provide students with theoretical knowledge of how to perform microbiological analyses of soil, water and air. Students will learn basic methods and techniques for the detection and quantification of microorganisms in different habitats and microbial activity. The course will facilitate understanding of both environmental microbiology and biotechnology.

1. the student knows the main groups of microorganisms and their role in the environment and biotechnology;
2. the student has elementary knowledge of the basic areas of biotechnology and microbiology
3. the student knows basic vocabulary of microbiology and biotechnology in English
4. the student knows the basic methods of microbiological analysis of water, soil and air;
SKILLS:
1. the student uses language skills to solve simple tasks and quizzes to consolidate and extend their knowledge

- attendance – a student is allowed three unexcused absences.
