The content of the course:
European identity.
• The concept of Europe. Mediterranean culture and Europe.
• The role of the Greek poetry and of the Latin language in the European culture. Christianity and its role in the European culture.
• The heritage of the Enlightenment.
• Europe to the north of the Alps.
• The European myth in America.
The European and local dimensions of the Polish literature.
• The universal quality of the poetry by Kochanowski.
• Poland in Europe in the 19th century literature.
• The literary image of art in the works of Norwid.
Literary and film images of contemporary Europe.
• The European consciousness as diagnosed by the cinema today.
• The cultural crisis and possible panacea.
Subject and method of evaluation.
The knowledge of readings and the level of involvement in the classes will be assessed. There will be a written form of earning credit.
Additional notes.
No more than two absences from the classes per term are acceptable.
