Psychology of marriage and family WF-ZPS-MR-2
Course contents:
Basic concepts of marriage and family in psychology - a historical perspective. Contribution of major psychological directions in the development of the psychology of marriage and the family; Relationships of marriage and family psychology with other psychology departments; Methods used in the psychology of marriage and the family - general presentation; The importance of childhood experiences in building relationships in marriage and the family. The influence of the family of origin on the formation of relationships in marriage. Satisfying basic needs; correct self image in building intimate interpersonal relationships; the attitude of parents towards children during their childhood and the functioning of marriage and family in their children (toxicity problem).
Factors determining the quality of the marriage.
Factors reflecting the functioning of a married couple.
Satisfying the needs of the spouses; joint realization of values; resolving conflicts in marriage, the causes of conflicts at different stages of the union, integrating and disintegrating conflict resolution, conflict prevention; crisis situations in marriage, causes and therapies. External factors affecting the success of marriage.
Social and economic status, women's work, social engagement, relationships with family of origin.
Marriages of marriage.
Systemic family concept. Homeostasis in the family, intra-familial communication, family boundaries, morphogenesis and family morphostasis. Family structure in different family systems: family right, overprotective, powerless, chaotic and entangled.
Family as a community
Ties in the family. Dynamics of family interactions.
Basic family functions. Parental attitudes, parental typologies, influence of certain types of parental attitudes on child development; methods of parental attitudes examination; styles of education; role of reward and punishment. Conflict situations in the family.
Causes of conflicts at different stages of family development; ways of solving them and preventing conflicts and crises in family life.
Elderly people in the family. Illness and death in the family life.
Disorders of family systems.
Assessment methods: Written exam or written work. The material presented at the lecture and the reading material

KNOWLEDGE: The student has knowledge of family systems, he can explain the principles of their functioning and the processes occurring in the family, he has knowledge about the functioning of man in relation to the other in marriage and family and the knowledge to analyze the factors affecting the high quality of marriage and the integrity of the family system, he knows the functions of family, he has a knowledge of the ways to help the family.
SKILLS: he can identify issues of functioning of different family systems, he can interpret social phenomena relating to the issue of forming relationships in marriage and family, he can use the theoretical knowledge to analyze the processes and phenomena in family systems by identifying their causes and course, he uses this knowledge to resolve dilemmas arise in family counseling, he analyzes proposed solutions in the field of family counseling, he can propose appropriate decisions in this regard in relation to the tasks facing the psychologist who knows the issues of marriage and family.
COMPETENCE/ATTITUDES: he uses critically and logically the acquired knowledge in the field of family issues, he formulates problems and distinguishes between the various approaches and the recognition of the above problems, he is aware of the need for constant updating of his knowledge and skills in the field of marriage and family issues, he retains criticism and tend to verify the information, is open to the ideas of others and willing to engage in a debate on the issues of marriage and family, also on diagnosis and methods of family support, he can make the diagnosis of the problem, he can complement and improve his knowledge and skills.
Assessment criteria
KNOWLEDGE: Students will acquire knowledge about the basics of family functioning, history and present, the principles of family functioning and will learn about the functioning of normal, dysfunctional and dysfunctional families.
SKILLS: Students should gain the skills how to use the acquired knowledge needed to identify various types of family problems.
COMPETENCES / ATTITUDES: Students should be aware of the need to constantly develop their knowledge. It should be characterized by an open attitude to various problems and the competence to pre-diagnose them, should have knowledge of the principles of the process of family mediation.
