Theories of mind WF-PS-TUMS
Course description: People have always attempted to describe the mind and the rules according to which it functions. The concepts were initially based on philosophical and biological foundations. In the nineteenth century the psychoanalytical approach has been introduced. Rapid developments of science in the twentieth century have radically changed the perception of the human body. A new, interdisciplinary methodology has been developed, where biological, psychological and cognitive science complement one another.
The course will concentrate on the methods of mind exploration and the scientific concepts resulting from those methods.
After completing the course a student should:
>> comprehend the theories of the mind as well as history of the concepts regarding how the human mind operates,
>> be aware of the history of forming of the interdisciplinary methodologies of exploration and models of the mind.
Requirements to complete the course:
>> Attendance at 80% of classes
>> Active participation in discussion
>> Read and pass the reading indicated by the teacher
>> Positive result of the end test (extra points will be added for active participation in discussion)

Knowledge: the student knows what dealing with neuroscience and philosophy of mind, as it developed, know the main issues discussed in the sciences in the area of neuroscience. The student has the orientation of the major achievements of modern neuroscience.
Skills: student interprets messages from the neurosciences, can assess their cognitive value. He can justify the possibility of dealing with selected issues in the context of mental psychological fnauk.
Competence: is open to the possibility of a rational interpretation of the discoveries and achievements of neuroscience.
